Black and Decker CDC180AK 18-Volt Cordless Drill Kit, Charger and Battery, Includes 30...
Product Review This is a mighty little drill that's more than up to whatever test you put it to. We like it particularly for its awesome compact size and for the fact that size doesn't mean sacrificing power. It's got all the strength and torque you need for just about anything you need to do around the house, the yard and the garage, whether it's drilling or driving tasks. The variable speed is a great feature, and you'll find you're making good use of it every time you use this drill, for slow, controlled starts as well as the speed you need for drilling, with a range of 0 to 650 rpm. The clutch has six settings, so you always get the torque you need for the job, up to 127 inch-pounds. One of the things we liked most about this drill is the fact that it's smaller and lighter than previous models, and so better suited for smaller hands, especially women's. But one thing we've found on some female-friendly drills is that sometimes, the battery puts up too good a fight if you can't grip all the way around it. No worries here: The 18-volt battery is spring-loaded for easy ins and outs. B&D gets a big woohoo from us for that. The chuck is keyless, and that means fast and easy bit changes something you'll do a a lot of, because this drill comes packaged with 30 accessories, so you can tackle just about any task right out of the box. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste Manufacturer Description The new line of Black & Decker compact cordless drills are 17% smaller than the previous models and also provide 10% more torque. Each drill has variable speed and a 6 position clutch for drilling and driving control and a keyless chuck for quick and easy bit changes. The drills also come with 30 accessories to help give versatility for a wide range of applications. Reader Reviews I have this drill but would instead recommend the B&D "Firestorm" drill with a "Quick release" keyless chuck. Much better, with two speed and torque adjustments and, amazingly a lower price. One problem this particular drill has is that the keyless chuck tends to loosen by itself. The Jacobs chucks that are standard in Dewalt and other brands are bulletproof for this. I'd say you get what you pay for, but for this quality and features I'd go with a no-brand from many other places for less than half the price OR shop around to find a better one with more features for about the same dough. Also, this thing has a single speed only. It's an in between speed. Not fast enough to drill well in wood, and not slow enough that you can purely rely on the clutch when driving screws in wood. The removable keyless chuck on the B&D Firestorm drill I recommend has a quick release 1/4" hex shaft which allows you to put a drill bit in the chuck and keep a driver in the quick release - super fast change - really nice when you have to predrill screw holes in a deck or other project.
